Independence Day is near, and there’s plenty to do around Chicagoland starting now. Here are four ways to celebrate the 4th:

Fireworks at Navy Pier

It’s a classic, so we have to mention Chicago’s spectacular Navy Pier fireworks display. Get there early, expect large crowds, and prepare to be dazzled as the sky begins to light up at 9:30 p.m. You can also see the show from the lakefront, Millennium Park, and hundreds of Chicago rooftops, so take this weekend to coordinate your viewing spot. Lisle Eyes to the Skies Fest

If you happen to be in the western burbs, the Lisle Fest is always a good time. Attendees will enjoy a carnival, hot air balloons, several live music stages, and vendors offering everything from palm readings to chiropractic adjustments. Oh, and don’t forget the food. Chicago History Museum

If loud bands and tipsy crowds are a bit too lowbrow for you, head to the Chicago History Museum for a 4th of July celebration that would make our Founding Fathers proud. You’ll be treated to a parade led by the world’s tallest Uncle Sam, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and a keynote speech by an Illinois Supreme Court justice.
